Silsila, it will definitely ring a bell to most of the Indian readers. If you are a non- Indian reader, do see the movie Silsila. It really makes you want to head over to the tulip park near Amsterdam and shoot your own tulip dance movie Keukenhof.
Let me explain the main idea behind Silsila. It’s an incredible Bollywood movie made in the 1980’s. Romantic, colorful. And like any good Bollywood blockbuster, it is full of passionate songs. The most famous song is partly shot in the spring flower fields. Two lovers sing and dance in the tulips.

How to create the ultimate tulip dance movie Keukenhof?
Now, the main goal of many of my Indian participants is to dance in the tulips and create exactly the same video as the one you can see in Silsila. They visit Keukenhof and are disappointed. No possibility there to shoot a tulip dance movie Keukenhof. First of all, because in the Keukenhof spring garden there are no flower fields. Second, angry bulb growers & gardeners will come after you when you try to get into the tulips. So how do you create the ultimate tulip dance movie Keukenhof?
First step for that perfect dancing with the tulips video: step out of your comfort zone, leave the Keukenhof gardens and get into the Dutch countryside.
Second step, or maybe that’s the first, plan your visit to the Dutch tulips in the right period of time. For a long time this was Mid- April, the last years tulip fields bloomed early April. At the moment you’re booking your tulip travel to Holland, ask me to confirm the right dates for blooming tulips with you.
Third step: Where do you dance in the tulips? Better question is: where are you allowed to film & go into the fields?
Where are you allowed to go in the tulip fields?
Well, as I’ve explained before, it’s probably not a good idea to do it in Keukenhof. The gardeners are quite sensitive when it comes to their well-designed inspirational gardens. So the Amsterdam tulip park is a no-go.
You might be greatly attracted to gracefully float through the flower fields around Keukenhof, but be careful. Here it is not the gardeners getting angry, but the tulip cultivators. These days the flower fields are fenced, it’s impossible to really get into them. Fortunately there are a couple of places where the bulb growers allow you to enter their colorful fields and take flower power selfies and shoot that a tulip dance movie that looks a lot like Silsila. Flower Parade Netherlands 2023 - When & Where
In spring it's time for the Flower Parade Netherlands 2023. The name in Dutch is Bloemencorso Bollenstreek. The flower decorated floats follow a route around Keukenhof. In this post you read when the Bulb Flower Parade takes place and where you can watch it.
When does the spring flower parade Netherlands 2023 take place?
The Dutch love to celebrate flowers and color. There are many Dutch flower parades and fortunately they all take place at a different time. Every season has its own flower. The Zundert Flower Parade Netherlands 2023 takes place at the end of summer. Dahlias bloom from August till far into the autumn season. These make the perfect flowers for the Corso in Zundert.
Mid-April the tulips and hyacinths bloom. Tulips are quite fragile and you won't see them that often in the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek. The hyacinths are much firmer. Besides, they can be used in different ways. You can use a full flower with stem or just a single petal as you can see in this post.
In 2023 you can view the famous street parade of the Flower Parade Bulb Region on Saturday 22 April 2022. Over 20 floats decorated with spring flowers will be participating in the flower procession this year.

Where can I see the Bulb Flower Parade Netherlands 2023?
My tip of the day: go see this evening flower parade on Friday 21 April. It's amazing and not so crowded. The nicely scented and colorfully decorated floats leave the huge hall around 2 PM. They head for Noordwijkerhout. In this cosy town they start the party at noon.
On Saturday morning 22 April around 9:30 AM the bulb flower parade starts in Noordwijk. It follows a route through the flower villages Voorhout, Sassenheim, Lisse, Hillegom, Bennebroek, Heemstede. At 21:30 the spring flower parade Netherlands 2023 ends in Haarlem.
On Sunday 23 April you can see the floats displayed on the market square of Haarlem.

How to get to Keukenhof from Amsterdam by public transport? It's fairly easy. As explained in this blogpost, the popular flower garden of the Netherlands is located in Lisse. This year, the Keukenhof is open from 23 March till 14 May 2023. In these weeks, there are special buses that drop you right in front of the entrance of the famous flower park.

It was a sunny Tuesday evening. There were waves of wind rolling through the feverish red tulip fields. All the tulips seemed to point their heads in the same direction: that of the big hall at the end of the lane.
This blogpost was written in 2016 and updated in January 2023.
There were chills running down my spine of pure excitement. In less than an hour I would walk into that hall and dive behind the scenes of the flower parade only to come out again three days later. I had a hunch, an idea, of the amazing creations I would find there, but wasn't prepared for the things I would see.
Sightseeing in keukenhof area to find the local festivals
Last years I've been going sightseeing through the area Keukenhof by bike and each year I discovered new places, hidden treasures. I've never been in this hall or behind the scenes of the Flower Parade in the Keukenhof area. As soon as I enter the building, my jaw drops and my eyes open wide. Spread throughout the hall are enormous objects made out of the kind of foam you want to pinch your finger in to see if it is as fluffy as it looks like.
All kinds of building constructions are made around it so the volunteers are able to reach the higher parts easier. There are crates full of hyacinths, orchids, daffodils and tulips and boxes full of staples are waiting to be used. Above all there are volunteers walking around everywhere and there is music and a place to sit and have a drink. Even though this hall is huge, all these things add up to a relaxed atmosphere and give a very homey feeling.

Who is the flower parade winner?
But, don't let appearances fool you. There's a lot to be done. While I'm touring my English, Dutch and Spanish speaking groups around and tell them about the history and the making of this 69th edition of the 2016 Flower Parade Bollenstreek, there is a competition going on. All the floats and flower arrangements and decorations have to be done before Friday morning. The volunteers, all from different associations and clubs in the area, work day and night to finish their project. Every part of the float has to be perfect. Because besides fun, every team also hopes to win the first prize. So, the teams are definitely under pressure. It can be sensed in the air, especially Thursday evening, when the deadline comes closer.
Shower for the flowers of the parade
On Friday everything is done. All construction is gone, everything is cleaned and the last preparations for the Flower Parade are being made. The air is literaly being cleared, as fire men spray the floats with water to freshen up the flowers. Hopefully all the flowers keep their fresh look for the next few days. That very evening the floats pass through Noordwijkerhout. On Saturday morning they leave Noordwijk and the Flower Parade finishes in Haarlem. All the floats can be admired one last time in the city center of Haarlem on Sunday.
