Heavy rain and thunder hit the Netherlands last night. The Hoogheemraadschap Delfland, the organisation that manages water in the region of Delft, The Hague and the Westland already took measures yesterday and lowered the water level in canals, ditches and prepared the polders designated as water retention areas to store the excess of rain water. Nevertheless, severe local rainfall of up to four centimeters has caused localised floodings in tunnels and streets.
