Easter break in the tulip fields

Celebrate your Easter break in the tulip fields near Keukenhof.  It’s not just for the colourful flower carpets. The region of tulips, daffodils & hyacinths transforms into one big festival. Pack your easter eggs, fill your bottles with eggnog, head out and explore the Keukenhof area with these tips.

Tip 1:  Explore the Keukenhof area by bicycle

When I’m on my bike, every day feels like a holiday. Especially when I get to spend those days with visitors from abroad. On a bicycle you find treasures which you wouldn’t have spotted by car, coach or public transport. You can cover a larger distance than by foot. And, you can easily share your discoveries. What I love most are the conversations enroute, based on the things you see. Trees in all kind of different shapes, hares running around through the flower fields, red-and-white windowshutters, labyrinths and secret passages to castles…Can’t say it enough: Cycling is the best way to get around!

Tip 2: Pick your own tulips

In the Keukenhof area there are two tulip picking gardens. This one near Sassenheim is my favourite as the tulips are of the most exotic types. And, as you can see in this picture: tulip picking is a great activity for the whole family. Especially if the challenge is to only pick tulips with bulb attached to it. It’s immensly difficult to get the flower bulb out and your hands get quite dirty, but I planted some of the bulbs from last year and they’re amazingly beautiful!

Tip 3: Get creative with hyacinths, daffodils & tulips

Employees of the hyacinth growers are is already cutting & collecting hyacinths for the decoration of the Flower Parade, taking place in the weekend of 21-23 April.  Hyacinths are not only used for the flower parade though. The flower villages Lisse, De Zilk, Vogelenzang create these amazing flower mosaics and put them on display coming weekend, 15 & 16 April. There’s a full route you can cycle or walk to see all the flower mosaics. All tourist informations in the region will have a copy of the route. On Saturday 15 April kids show their creativity in the mini Flower Parade in Lisse.

Win two tickets to tulip farm De Tulperij

While daffodil & hyacinth fields are abundantly blooming, I’ve also spotted the first few tulip fields in Keukenhof area -lucky are those who already booked a bike tour daffodil, hyacinth and tulip fields 😉 – . Just a few more days for tulip farm De Tulperij opens again and we can find out what a spring flower/ tulip grower has to do to make those flower fields & tulips look so amazing.

Tulip farm De Tulperij is a cosy, beautifully decorated greenhouse surrounded by magnificent flower fields in Keukenhof area. While Anja makes sure everything in the greenhouse is perfectly arranged, Daan takes care of his fields.  I love this place, because it has this homey feeling to it. Daan & Anja really make you feel welcome. During a bike ride you can walk in for a coffee or tea and enjoy it outside on their sunny terrace overlooking their flower fields.

You can also take the best flower power selfies in their colourful fields. Best is to do that after one of the guided tours by Daan.  In a fun and highly enthusiastic way he takes you to his fields and explains how a hyacinth and tulip are grown.

On 31 March Daan & Anja open the doors of De Tulperij again for all visitors and Verita’s Visit is celebrating this by giving away two tickets to Daan’s guided tour.

The tour can be done on one of these days:
